Conflict, disagreement or unalignment can start to have wide implications quickly. While complex situations may be at play in causing these situations, the opportunity we have is to create a process that enables more understanding and restoration than can happen naturally.

In faciilitative mediation, parties are held through a process that endeavours to find a way forward, reaching decisions and/or agreements.

Our mediators are accredited by the Australian Mediator and Dispute Resolution Accreditation Standards (AMDRAS). We practice in accourdance with the AMDRAS Code of Ethics.

We facilitate an even-handed, safe and ethical process that supports agency, self-determination, co-determination and cooperative decision making to ensure informed decision making. We are independent to the individual parties and their interests, heading instead for joint interests and a way forward.

The mediator provides information, guidance and advice only when competent and authorised to do so.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the mediation process work?

Mediation usually begins with an initial assessment to confirm suitability. This is followed by preparation with each party and a facilitated mediation session. The mediator guides discussion and helps parties explore practical options for resolution.

Is mediation legally binding?

Mediation itself is not legally binding. If parties reach agreement, outcomes can be documented and may later be formalised through workplace or legal processes if appropriate.

What happens if mediation does not resolve the issue?

If mediation does not result in resolution, parties retain the option to pursue other pathways. Mediation does not prevent access to internal processes, formal complaints, or legal action.

Do I need a lawyer for mediation?

Legal representation is not required for mediation. Some people choose to obtain legal advice before or after mediation, but the mediation process itself focuses on facilitated conversation rather than legal argument.

Is mediation available online as well as in person?

Yes. Mediation can take place in person in Melbourne or online, depending on the needs of the parties and the nature of the dispute.
